Elderly man hit by train in Pattaya area, police suspect death by suicide

An elderly man who Nongprue police believe jumped onto the railway was hit by a train in Nongprue this afternoon.

The Banglamung Police was notified of the incident at 2:30PM on Khao Noi – Wat Thamsamakee Road.

Police, rescue workers and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find the body of 73 year old Mr. Sawai Padee.

Nearby, police found the train had stopped and the driver, 39 year old Raewat Sriart, was waiting for police.

The train driver told police that Sawai was sitting on the railway when the train was approaching.

The driver honked the horn several times but instead of moving away, Mr. Padee jumped toward the train. Raewat was unable to avoid hitting Mr. Padee.

Police also found a parked sedan nearby. Inside they found letters addressed for his niece that also said that he has many health problems and no money.
