SUPHANBURI-Besides tourist attractions that have opened for the first day after a long closure, some Thai prisons have also opened to allow family visits to inmates.
Relatives of the inmates in Suphanburi prison were seen yesterday applying for a visit and undergoing a strict screening process before a visit, as today is the first day that the prison has reopened for inmate visits.
Mr. Somsak Khiaw-On, Commander of Suphanburi prison, said today that the prison had implemented visits under stricr conditions, that require all visitors to apply in advance.
When the visitors arrive at the prison, they first need to scan the Thaichana QR Code and agree to observe other measures such as social distancing, wearing a mask, and having their temperature checked; if the body temperature exceeds 37.5 degrees Celcius the visitor won’t be allowed to see the inmate.
In the visiting rooms, prison officers regularly clean the facility and only allow one inmate to have two visitors in each room. Each round of a visit allows 10 visitors and lasts 10 minutes whereas it used to allow 20 visitors in each round. Inmate visits can be applied for once a month and take place from 8.30 AM to 3.30 PM
The Pattaya News notes that not every prison in the country has re-opened for visitors and is based on local and provincial leaders decisions. We suggest to check with the specific prison you are interested in before arrival. Some prisons may have additional requirements for visitors as well.
