Nearly 20 million people crash Thai government cash payout website for informal workers briefly during registration opening, shocking officials

Bangkok-

Nearly 20 Million people attempted to login and register to the governments cash payout website that opened for registration last night according to officials from Krungthai Bank, significantly higher than the previous expected applicants of around 3.5 million people.

The website was created for Thai people who are informal workers, such as those in the entertainment industry in Pattaya, to provide them with 5000 baht a month for several months during the current period in which most non essential businesses are closed to help prevent the spread of the Covid19 Coronavirus.

Thai Government officials had stressed there was no time limit on registration and there was no need to rush, however, it was quite clear many people are desperate for cash as the numbers of those informal workers who are unemployed due to the Covid19 Coronavirus are far, far beyond previous estimates.

Mr. Phayongsriwanich, President Krung Thai Bank revealed that before opening the website at 6:00 PM last evening there were nearly two million people on the website waiting and refreshing.

Shortly after opening, that number reached nearly twenty million people, he stated.

The website crashed and was brought online later with improvements, however, many Thai social media users complained about not being able to register or errors, many spending hours to attempt to do so.

The sheer size and number of applicants shows just how many people the current crisis is hurting.
