Chinese tourist confirmed as 33rd novel Coronavirus patient

Chinese tourist from Wuhan confirmed Thailand’s 33rd coronavirus case

Thailand’s Disease Control Department (DCD) today announced an additional coronavirus case, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Thailand to 33.

DCD director-general Dr. Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai says that the case is a 54-year female Chinese tourist from Wuhan, who arrived in Thailand before the Chinese government quarantined the city.

The woman, he added, had close contact with another Chinese person, who was earlier confirmed to be infected with the virus, and doctors have kept her under close observation for 14 days, during which she developed a fever, cough and sore throat. The woman has not been exposed to the general public for several weeks and is not a general threat to the public the doctor added.

The woman is isolated at Bamrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute for closer observation and treatment and, last Saturday, lab tests confirmed she was infected with novel coronavirus 2019.

Dr. Suwanchai said that the patient’s condition is not severe and is steadily improving because she has been kept under observation and treated continuously. She is expected to fully recover.
