Pattaya and Thailand start Chinese New Year celebrations

Pattaya Celebrates Chinese New Year 2020

Pattaya –
Many places in Pattaya have already begun to celebrate the Chinese New Year weekend.

Chinese Thais actually make up approximately 14% of the population of Thailand (more than 10 million people).

This year the Chinese New Year falls on January 25th.

Chinese New Year celebrations are being held at many locations around Pattaya such as Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation, Pattaya Floating Market and Pattaya Walking Street, Central Pattaya Beach and Lan Pho Naklua.

This is a time for Chinese and Thai Chinese families to spend with their loved ones and to pay respect to their ancestors.

The New Year festival has been dampened some due to concerns about an emerging Coronavirus from Wuhan China that has killed dozens and infected over 800 worldwide, mostly in China. Five cases have been confirmed in Thailand as of press time. Regardless, those in Pattaya are determined to enjoy the holiday and hope for the best.

Here are photos of places in Pattaya celebrating the beginning of Chinese New Year. All were taken by the Pattaya News team and associated press.
