Thailand Ranks Among Top 50 Countries for Youth Happiness in 2024 Gallup World Poll

National —

On June 25th, 2024, Mr. Chai Watcharong, the Thai Government spokesperson, announced that the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) unveiled the Gallup World Poll’s “World Happiness Report 2024: countries where the youth might find happiness,” conducted in collaboration with the United Nations, Oxford University, and Gallup.

Thailand was ranked among the top 50 countries for individuals under 30, one of only two countries/economies from the 143 surveyed to achieve this distinction. The survey, conducted from 2021 to 2023, evaluated six key factors: GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy at birth, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and perceptions of corruption.

Thailand placed 45th in the under-30 category. Travel + Leisure Asia, an online travel magazine, highlighted that both Taiwan and Thailand made it into the top 50. Taiwan ranked 25th, recognized as the happiest economy in Asia for youth, praised for its friendly locals and flourishing LGBTQIA+ community.

Thailand, ranking 45th, was noted as the second happiest country in Asia. It was commended for its tourist-friendly policies, including visa-free travel and programs catering to young people’s lifestyles, allowing them to immerse themselves in Thailand’s vibrant culture and way of life.

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin expressed satisfaction and gratitude for Thailand’s ranking in the 2024 World Happiness Report. He consistently considers the needs and lifestyles of the younger generation, prioritizing policies that align with modern times and the aspirations of youth, according to Chai.

Additionally, on June 18th, 2024, the Thai Senate passed the Marriage Equality Bill, making Thailand the first country in ASEAN and the third in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. This demonstrates Thailand’s commitment to policies that enhance the quality of life for both residents and tourists. The ranking highlights the success of the government’s forward-thinking policies,” Chai concluded.
