Pattaya —

Pattaya immigration police arrested several illegal workers from Laos and Vietnam this week after residents complained the workers were taking jobs from Thai people.

The operation took place on June 24th, 2024, at a market in Soi Phonprapanimit, Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province, following complaints from residents about a large number of foreign workers in the area.

Officers found 38 workers, 25 men and 13 women, from Laos and Vietnam. Some of the workers did not have any passports and work permits.

One of the arrested Lao workers admitted that he came to Thailand to earn money to support his family. Another Vietnamese worker alleged that she flew to Thailand as a tourist and was just buying vegetables at the market. However, officers decided to detain her after she could not show her passport.

All the workers were then taken to the Chonburi Immigration Office where they were charged with entering and staying in Thailand illegally and working without a work permit. The workers were fined and will be deported back to their home countries.
