At 10:00 PM on June 20th, 2024, Mueang Udon Thani police officers and relevant agencies conducted a raid on a karaoke bar in Mueang Udon Thani, Udon Thani, which was allegedly secretly providing prostitutes under the age of 18 to customers.
According to local officials, the Ronasit Foundation had previously filed a report against an entertainment operator on Watthananuchawong Road, an area popular among foreigners and home to many bars.
The report alleged that the establishment was providing underage prostitutes to both foreign and Thai customers. Initial investigations confirmed that the establishment was indeed engaging in illegal activities, according to police.
During the raid, police and relevant agencies discovered more than 10 female individuals residing at the bar, including two 16-year-olds and one 18-year-old. It was reported that the 18-year-old had been working at the establishment since she was 16.
Initially, the establishment owner, who did not possess a legal permit to operate the business, will face charges including human trafficking, providing sexual services, and other felony offenses.
The name of the owner, however, was withheld by police pending further legal action.
