Thai Prime Minister Takes Sick Leave After COVID-19 Diagnosis

PRESS RELEASE:

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has announced he is taking sick leave after testing positive for COVID-19. The announcement was made Sunday evening (June 16) via his Facebook page, where he shared that symptoms of fatigue and a slight fever prompted him to get tested.

According to Government Spokesperson Chai Wacharonke, the prime minister sought medical advice last Friday when he first experienced symptoms. The subsequent test confirmed his infection. His doctor has recommended a rest period until he is no longer contagious, with further monitoring scheduled for the early part of the week.

Srettha has apologized to those who have recently been in close contact with him, advising them to monitor their health closely and undergo COVID-19 testing if symptoms arise. Provided his recovery progresses smoothly, he plans to return to his official duties by June 19.
