In the early hours of June 15th, 2024, U-Tapao Airport in Rayong was the scene of a tense emergency landing when an Airbus A319, arriving from Dubai, encountered a critical landing gear malfunction.
The incident began unfolding at approximately 12:30 AM when the airport’s control tower was alerted to a potential issue with the aircraft’s wheel base not fully extending in preparation for landing. The Pattaya News Thai team released an alert on its social media channels as well.
Rescue teams were promptly coordinated by the U-Tapao Airport authorities to be on standby, including more than 40 rescue vehicles and ambulances from Rayong and Chonburi provinces, along with trained personnel ready to respond to any emergencies.
The aircraft, manned by 1 captain, 1 assistant captain, and 7 crew members, communicated the technical difficulty to the control tower as it sought to make an emergency disembarkation at U-Tapao Airport.
After tense moments and preparations on the ground, the latest update at 1:05 AM confirmed that the plane had successfully landed on the runway. All people aboard were reported safe following the incident.
An investigation is reportedly taking place into the cause of the malfunction.
