Pattaya —
The Pattaya Nong Nooch Tropical Garden celebrated the birth of new twin baby elephants with a grand ceremony today, June 11th.
Mr. Kampol Tansajja, President of Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, along with his management team, invited Phra Kru Silasarathikhun, Abbot of Khao Khanthamat Temple, and Phra Kru Kasem Kittisophon, Abbot of Samakkhi Banphot Temple, to preside over the welcoming ceremony held within the 200-rai garden on Tuesday.
The ceremony started with a procession of graceful dancers and over 30 elephants, who warmly welcomed the two new calves, “Plai Mitthuna” and “Pang Nong Joon.” The abbots then placed flowery garlands around the elephants’ necks before gently marking their foreheads with white powder for religious blessings.
Plai Mitthuna and Pang Nong Joon were born on the same day in June 2024. Both calves are in good health and under the attentive care of the sanctuary’s specialized elephant keepers.
Currently, the Pattaya Nong Nooch Tropical Garden is taking care of 77 elephants. The garden is the first elephant sanctuary in Thailand to receive certification for good practices from the Thai Department of Livestock and the National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards.
