At 11:30 AM, on May 21st, 2024, Thai national media reported about the Talufa Group holding a protest at the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC) to submit a letter to Mr. Somkid Chuekong, the deputy secretary-general of the Thai prime minister for political affairs, demanding justice in the case of investigating the death of Ms. Netiporn “Bung” Sanesangkhom.
The activist group gathered at OPDC to listen to the case progress of the investigation of the death of Neptiporn. However, it was reported that no official responsible for the case showed up to receive the letter after an hour of protest.
The political activists relocated to the Government House while police officers on standby prevented them from entering the House as there was an ongoing cabinet meeting.
The activist group publicly stated that the Pheu Thai Party had previously stated to consider an amendment of political crimes under Section 112 or Lese Majeste and an amnesty of political prisoners under Section 112. However, it had been 10 months since the Pheu Thai Party was a ruling government, and there was no response from the Party, according to Thai national media.
After the protest in front of the Government House, the activist group returned to OPDC and successfully submitted the letter to Somkid, according to Thai national media.
However, the pending report was still not received, and the causes of the death of Bung were therefore in doubt, remarked Kritsadang, the lawyer in question from Thai Lawyers for Human Rights.
