Fire Breaks Out Overnight at Royal Garden Plaza Pattaya, No Injuries

Pattaya —

A fire broke out at the Royal Garden Plaza shopping mall in Pattaya, but fortunately it caused no serious injuries as the mall was closed at the time.

The incident occurred at around 1:06 AM on May 17th, 2024. Upon receiving a report of the fire, Pattaya City’s Disaster Relief Unit and the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan emergency responders rushed to the scene at the shopping mall in question.

There, authorities saw thick smoke billowing out of the mall’s front entrance. Authorities immediately cordoned off the area and evacuated people from the surrounding areas to prevent them from getting injured.

Firefighters and rescue workers entered the mall to investigate the source of the fire. They discovered that the fire had originated on the second floor in a beauty salon, where flames were burning beauty equipment and other supplies. Firefighters then used water hoses to quickly quell the blaze. They also used ventilation equipment to clear thick smoke inside the mall.

According to firefighters, two unidentified individuals suffered minor smoke inhalation injuries. Fortunately, no serious injuries or fatalities were reported.

Ms. Kanokorn Karaket, a 37-year-old mall cleaner, told The Pattaya News that the fire broke out after the main mall closed although a few attached fast food restaurants on the lower level were open but only to outside access. She described hearing a loud explosion followed by sparks and smoke emanating from the beauty salon. She immediately fled the building and called for assistance.

Pattaya police initially presumed that the fire might have been caused by an electrical short circuit. The estimated damage is in the hundreds of thousands of baht.
