Koh Larn in Pattaya Faces Water Shortage As Heat Wave Hits

Pattaya —

The water situation on Pattaya’s Koh Larn is getting dire as a scorching heat wave continues to hit Thailand.

Koh Larn, a popular tourist island off the coast of Pattaya, is facing a severe water shortage during Thailand’s current dry season. Residents on the island are struggling to access clean water for daily consumption, as the island’s water production is insufficient to meet the demands of both locals and tourists.

Mr. Kanchanop Sukkee, a resident of Koh Larn, told The Pattaya News reporters that the tap water on the island is insufficient for consumption. Normally, the price of water is 150 baht per ton, with a water truck capable of carrying 2 tons per round, costing 300 baht. However, during high demand periods, the price per round can go up to 350-400 baht. In a severe situation like the current one, the price of water has skyrocketed to over 1,000-1,200 baht per round, Mr. Kanchanop said.

The high water prices are putting a strain on residents and businesses on the island. Local residents are calling on relevant authorities to take action to address the water shortage, ideally by increasing the production of water and expanding the distribution network.
