USS Theodore Roosevelt and Carrier Strike Group NINE Arrive in Thailand

Laem Chabang, Thailand – April 24, 2024: Carrier Strike Group Nine (CSG-9), its flagship USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), and embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 11 arrived in Laem Chabang for a regular scheduled port visit, Apr. 24. This is the first time Theodore Roosevelt has visited Thailand since 2018.

Ships from Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 23 visiting Sriracha, Thailand at the same time include the USS Russell (DDG 59), USS Daniel K. Inouye (DDG118), USS Halsey (DDG 97), and USS Howard (DDG 83).

“We are grateful to the Thais for their hospitality in welcoming our strike group for this port visit,” said Rear Adm. Christopher Alexander, commander of Carrier Strike Group Nine. “During this deployment, we have had several opportunities to meet, train and operate with allies and partners across the region, and we look forward to this chance to strengthen the long-standing friendship between the U.S. Navy and Thailand.”

While the USS Theodore Roosevelt and the additional CSG-9 ships are docked in port, crewmembers will have the opportunity to explore the country and enjoy Thailand’s rich cultural soft power. The ship will also be conducting several community service events, and several Thai-American members of Theodore Roosevelt’s crew will also have a chance to reconnect with family.

Brian Schrum, commanding officer, USS Theodore Roosevelt. “Our crew looks forward to learning about Thailand’s rich history and building lasting friendships during their time here, and we thank the Thai people for their kindness and hospitality in welcoming us.”

Carrier Strike Group Nine departed San Diego for a regularly scheduled deployment to the Western Pacific, Jan. 12 in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific.

CSG-9 is a multiplatform team of ships and aircraft, capable of carrying out a wide variety of missions around the globe from combat missions to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief response. The strike group is comprised of CSG-9 staff, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 23 staff, USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN) 71, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 11, and DESRON 23 ships; USS Russell (DDG 59), USS Daniel K. Inouye (DDG118), and USS Halsey (DDG 97).
