Masks with exhalation valves officially banned while traveling by aircraft in Thailand, CAAT reports

National –

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has now officially banned wearing facial masks with exhalation valves on board to potentially prevent the spread of Covid-19 Coronavirus, which technically became effective earlier this month on December 1st, although was only revealed to the press yesterday.

CAAT Director-General Suttipong Kongpool revealed yesterday, December 9th, that the order was approved under the regulations of the CAAT regarding the guidelines for passenger services during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Outbreak Situation.

The restriction of wearing masks with exhalation valves was issued in accordance with the recommendation of The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the international standards of the World Health Organization (WHO) as the exhalation valves would allow unfiltered breath to escape the mask.

The airlines’ operators are now responsible for requiring their pilots, crew, and passengers using the service to refrain from using masks with exhalation valves to reduce the risk of spreading the deadly virus.

Everyone on board must wear a medical mask or cloth mask throughout the journey when entering the airports and in the aircraft. The operators are recommended to advise the passengers to prepare additional medical masks or cloth masks for themselves in case of an emergency.

This announcement is effective starting from December 1st until further notice.
