One of the most prolific meteor showers, the Geminids, can be viewed across the country from tonight, December 13, through to the early hours of December 14, according to the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT).

About 120 bright meteor showers per hour will be visible with the naked eye in the northeastern direction of dark skies away from city light pollution across Thailand.

Fortunately, the chance of witnessing over a hundred shooting stars is good since the sky is unimpeded by moonlight due to the New Moon, which means the night sky will be darker and the meteors will be more visible, according to the Institute.

The NARIT Institute is also welcoming interested stargazers to observe the Geminid meteor shower from Doi Inthanon, the country’s highest peak, in Chiang Mai province. Other recommended sites are Chet Khot-Pong Kon Sao Nature and Ecotourism Study Center in Saraburi, Hup Khao Wong in Suphan Buri, Pom Pi in Kanchanaburi, Khao Chuk in Rayong, and Mae Ngat Dam in Chiang Mai.

For the Pattaya News readers that planned to observe the meteor showers, be staring into the northeast sky from the clearest location you can find at around 8:00 P.M. tonight. The Pattaya News notes that with the current air pollution situation in the area that it may complicate seeing the shower.
