More details on two confirmed Covid-19 cases in the Tak province of Thailand

Tak, Thailand-

There has been more information released on the two positive cases of Covid-19 first reported yesterday evening in the Northern province of Tak, Thailand.

Thanitphol Chaiyanan, an adviser to the Deputy Public Health Minister Satit Pitutecha, stated that the two positive cases are a husband and wife who live in the Mae Sot district, which shares a border with Myanmar. They are not Thai nationals, they are Burmese nationals who have legally lived in Thailand for several years. Thanitphol stated that a miscommunication yesterday originally stated that the two were Thai nationals.

Both cases are asymptomatic, he added, and are currently in a hospital and doing well.

The couple has a son who is legally employed at a border product transport checkpoint. Thanitphol stated that the Public Health Ministry believes the cases came from this area. Their son has reportedly tested negative for the virus as have their close contacts.

Thanitphol stressed that residents in the area should not panic and be calm as the Public Health Ministry were checking all the couple’s contacts and quarantining anyone potentially exposed.  The Minister of Public Health, Anutin Charnvirakul, has announced he will be visiting the area tomorrow, Sunday the 18th of October, to review precautions around Covid-19 in the area.
