Thai man high on methamphetamine steals phone from Chinese tourist on Pattaya Walking Street, arrested

A 24 year old Thai man who tested positive for crystal methamphetamine stole an iPhone estimated at 22,000 baht from a Chinese woman on Walking Street in South Pattaya yesterday evening, January 14, 2020.

The woman, Ms. Ouyang Feifei, was walking with her boyfriend near the Bali Hai Pier when the man, 24 year old Patthawut Neuenchen, grabbed her phone out of her hand and raced away. She, her boyfriend and several other tourists chased after the man screaming for him to stop.

They chased him nearly the length of Walking Street when a tourist police officer, who was not named, spotted the incident and managed to detain Mr. Neuenchen by force.

The suspect was not cooperative and continued to try to escape and was combative with officers.

He was brought to the Pattaya Police station where he tested positive for methamphetamine. He will be charged with theft and drug usage.

Ms. Feifei thanked the police for helping capture the suspect.
