Chanthaburi-

One woman was killed and six other irrigation workers clearing grass on the side of the road in Chanthuburi when they accidentally disturbed a large nest of bees yesterday.

Piyachart Khuranan of the Ko Perid Police was informed of the incident yesterday afternoon near the Chalerm Burapha Chonthit Road in the Laem Sing district.  A 43 year old woman, Ms. Nongnuch Tangman, was pronounced dead at the scene after running into a nearby lake to attempt to escape the bees and drowning. She had been stung dozens of times, according to rescue workers.

A co worker of Ms. Tangman, Mr.  Chalu Bunbunchu, 70, told associated press that the group of workers from the Royal Thai Irrigation Department were clearing grass and branches on the side of the road. While Ms. Nongnuch was cutting branches she failed to notice the nest of bees, causing a branch to hit the nest and anger the nest. All seven were stung multiple times and ran for cover, however Ms. Nongnuch took the brunt of the stings. Rescue workers said she died as a combination of the stings and drowning while running to a lake to attempt to get away from the bees but appeared to have after fallen unconscious from the pain and drowned.
