News on Bangkok Cricket League RBSC Challenge Cup

The following is a cricket update from the Asian Star Cricket club and was written by their members and team. Their statements are their own.

Dharmesh Mer hammers 157 not out in 77 balls & Powers Asian Star to sets new records in the Bangkok League.

Asian Star played against the RBSC cricket club in their 8th game of the league on Sunday, the 28th of March and was played at RBSC field at Bangkok.

The initial coin toss was won by Asian star and was on the perfect day for cricket, it was sunny with some breeze, a lush quick outfield, and the green turf wicket.

Star batsman Dharmesh Mer had joined with the new partner for the opening slot, Deepak Rawat. The left- and right-hand combination was the plan behind promoting Deepak in the opening order & the plan worked out well.

After a watchful first phase of initial four overs the flood gates opened, and both the batsman started unleashing their power hitting. In the first 10 overs Asian Star was at 103 for no loss. This was the first time in the tournament the star-studded Asian Star top order started performing and its coming at the right time in the tournament.

The fearless power hitting display continued by double D (Dharmesh and Deepak) with balls starting to fly all over out of the park.

RBSC captain K Tung had tried everything to stop the attack by changing field & shuffling the bowlers however some sloppy work in the fielding & dropped catches made the situation worse for the RBSC bowlers & they continued to suffer the onslaught. After innings break they got some relief when Deepak got out in 16th over with individual score of 86 runs missing and a well deserved century but not before putting the record stand of  156 runs for the first wicket.

This bought Asian Star’s captain, Pushpinder Singh at crease. The nightmare was about to begin for RBSC bowlers when Pushpinder (Dimple) announced his arrival with three straight sixes out of the park. And soon after reaching the 100 run (Century) mark Dharmesh started attacking with all engines firing full throttle & the onslaught was so devastating for the RBSC bowlers that the pair scored 98 runs in only 36 balls.

Asian Star reached 310 runs in allotted 25 overs which is a new record score of the Bangkok Cricket league. There were total 25 sixes hit in the innings by Asian Star which is a new record too. Dharmesh Mer scored the highest individual score of the league and went in the record book. He was not out at 157 runs in 78 balls, hitting 14 towering sixes and 9 boundaries. Pushpinder scored a quick fire unbeaten 57 in 28 balls.

With 311 to chase, it was an improbable task for the RBSC batting line with low morale after going through such a hammering on the day. After innings break, RBSC started their innings with the opening pair Abhi Singh & Jayesh Chabra. A good swing bowling from Pushpinder Singh & Imran Cheema saw it was not easy to attack & in an attempt of scoring quick runs RBSC lost two wickets in quick succession.

There was great wicket keeping work behind the stump by Mazahar Mughal which resulted in the stumped out of Jayesh. After losing the opening pair RBSC never got in contention of chasing this mountainous target. They kept losing wickets and ended the innings with 147 runs. There were some useful contribution lower down the order by Kaviraj (27runs) & Gaurav Singh (32 runs) but the game was already out of the reach of RBSC when Asian Star put the record target on the score card.

This is Asian Star’s 6th win in 8 games & they are maintaining the top position on the league table and almost firming their spot to the final round of the league.

With one more game to go and if they win; it may give them the well-deserved spot in the qualifying finals. Skipper Pushpinder Singh is confident that his team will continue the professional show and will not settle anything lesser than getting in the top spot and will remain the most favorite to bring the coveted trophy back to Pattaya.

In other games of the tournament; Bangkok Blues lost against Royal stars and other cricket teams from Pattaya city, Pattaya Cricket Club suffered a loss against Bangkok Cricket  Club putting the Pattaya CC’s next round’s qualification under risk & they will go into a must win game next Sunday against Royal Star.

Some exciting games scheduled coming weekend which will determine the top 4 teams of the league to enter in the final round of the RBSC Challenge Cup so stay tuned.
