Bank Debt Collector in Pattaya Finds Borrower Deceased at Residence

Pattaya —

A bank employee visited a borrower’s house in Pattaya to collect an unpaid loan only to find the latter deceased in the property.

Pol Lt Col Niphon Intarakul, chief investigator of the Nongprue Police Station, was alerted to the terrifying find at 2 PM on Tuesday October 24th. He, along with the rescue personnel, rushed to the scene located in a village in the Nongprue area of Banglamung district, Chonburi province.

At a derelict one-story concrete house, rescue workers broke open the front door to gain access. Inside, they discovered the decomposed body of a woman lying near the front entrance.

Upon checking the woman’s identification card, police identified her as 59-year-old Mrs. Nonglak (last name withheld). The Thai woman was estimated to have passed away no less than 3 months ago, according to police.

Upon inspection of Mrs. Nonglak’s residence, no signs of struggle or disturbance of belongings were found. However, a charcoal stove and a leaking gas cylinder were discovered, leading the police to believe that the woman may have taken her own life.

Requesting confidentiality of his name, the bank employee, who reported the incident to police, narrated that he traveled to the house to collect the woman’s overdue house installment payments. The woman had failed to make payments for at least three months, prompting his manager to instruct him to visit her in person.

The employee explained that he entered the property through an open front gate and was shocked to discover a dead body near the front door. He promptly notified the Nongprue police.

The police inquiry with an unidentified neighbor uncovered that people frequently visited the victim at the house, including her daughter. The neighbor added, however, that they had not seen the victim nor her daughter since July 2023.

While the police were leaning towards the possibility of the victim having died by suicide, the body would be transferred to the Police General Hospital for an autopsy. Authorities would also contact her daughter and other relatives for further questioning.
