Pattaya City Mayor and staff open sharing cabinet for needy during Covid-19 crisis at City Hall

Pattaya-

The Pattaya City Mayor and City Hall staff have installed a community sharing cabinet in front of the city hall in North Pattaya to assist the needy.

Pattaya is currently suffering from closure measures and travel restrictions in Chonburi due to a second round of Covid-19 cases in the area. These cases were primarily linked to illegal gambling and originally traced from the epicenter of a recent outbreak in Thailand at a shrimp market in Samut Sakhon.

Banglamung has been under closure orders that have shut many businesses and restricted travel to the province since December 30th of last year, putting tens of thousands out of work and many more with lack of work due to no domestic tourism such as the hotel industry.

The Mayor estimated earlier this week that as many as 30,000 people in the hotel industry alone are currently unemployed temporarily. Although the government says they will provide assistance, the process has been slow according to many residents and so far none has been seen for the many people who live day to day.

The food cabinets will be filled on a daily basis by city hall. People may also donate to the cabinets which are in front of the IT building at City Hall during daytime hours. There will be staff on hand to accept the donations. Requested items are dry food like canned goods and rice.

Social distancing measures and other Covid-19 related protection items are in place at the cabinets to ensure the safety of everyone according to the Pattaya Mayor.

As of today, January 22nd, Pattaya has gone one week with no new confirmed cases of Covid-19. However, health officials are being cautious and say it is too soon to lift restrictions.
