RECAP: CCSA announces 51 domestic Covid-19 infections with one additional death in past 24 hours

Thailand discovered 51 domestic infections among 59 new Covid-19 cases with one additional death in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) deputy spokesperson Apisamai Srirangsan announced this morning, January 20th.

The 71st confirmed death was a 48-year-old Thai woman who was reportedly working as a driver for a group of migrant workers in Tak province. She started to feel unwell on December 16th and decided to seek treatment at Mae Sot hospital, where she was initially diagnosed with tonsillitis on December 21st.

Her result for the Covid-19 Coronavirus proved positive on December 27th. She was treated and quarantined at the hospital since. However, her condition became worse before she was pronounced dead at around 10:00 PM. on January 18th.

Regarding the domestic cases, 28 of them were discovered in the following areas: Bangkok with 10, Samut Sakhon with 7, Samut Prakan 3, Rayong 3, Ratchaburi 1, Ayutthaya 1, Tak 1, Pathum Thani 1, and Nakhon Panom 1. Most of them are asymptomatic, according to the spokesperson.

The other 23 new domestic infections were in Samut Sakhon with 20 and Bangkok with 3 and were found during active case finding. All of them are both Thai and migrant workers and are now at state quarantine with no exposure to the general population.

A total of 265 people had fully recovered and been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now had a total of 12,653 cases with 9,621 recoveries since the start of the pandemic.
