Thailand to welcome roughly 650 foreign tourists from overseas yachts that will travel to Thailand after government grants permission

National –

Approximately 60 overseas yachts are now welcome to dock in Thailand’s territory after the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced permission for tourists aboard overseas yachts to travel to the country last week.

CCSA spokesman Taweesin Visanuyothin confirmed at a press briefing that, initially, a total of 60 yachts, 27 superyachts and 33 cruise ships, carrying 600-650 foreign passengers in total have requested permission to enter Thailand.

All passengers and crew must quarantine themselves onboard for 14 days, according to the national standard quarantine conditions. They would also be tested with the RT-PCR method three times for Covid-19 by health officials before disembarking.

It is estimated that all tourists and crews in total could generate around 2.1 million baht of income during their one month stay in the Kingdom, according to the spokesman.

The announcement, however, does not reveal further details about where vessels will be departing from as well as the visa requirements for the tourists and crew members traveling to Thailand on a yacht. The Pattaya News notes that some readers have inquired with their local embassies and could not get a straight answer on requirements or how to apply and that the process appears to be an “invite only” process or for certain countries/locations and not open to anyone with a yacht or every country.

Vice Admiral Choengchai Chomchoengphaet, Commander of the Third Naval Area Command, told the Associated Press that all yachts are initially expected to travel into the Andaman Sea, mostly to Phuket. The Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Center (Thai-MECC) has also been preparing support to welcome tourists and crewmates.

“All overseas vessels and their passengers are required to follow the strict health measures set by the government. The Thai-MECC will also help health officials to promote national safe tourism as well,” Choengchai stated.
