Bangkok –
Thailandâs Appeal Court has granted bail to three prominent protest leaders, a singer/songwriter, and 19 other pro-democracy protesters yesterday, October 19, in the evening, on a condition that they will not do anything to cause unrest against the law and they must report to authorities every fortnight.
Student activists – Parit âPenguinâ Chivarak, Panasaya âRungâ Sitthijirawattanakul, and Nutchanon Pairote – were facing charges of sedition, holding an illegal gathering that risked spreading disease, violation of the Computer Crimes Act, and using an amplifier without permission.
Pop singer Chaiamorn Kaewwiboonpan, or Ammy The Bottom Blues, along with other protesters were arrested last week mainly for allegedly obstructing the police and for the unauthorized organization of a rally during their gathering at the Democracy Monument one day before a large arranged rally on October 14.
Meanwhile, another prominent protest leader, human rights lawyer Anon Nampa, is still being held at a prison in the northern province of Chiang Mai.
According to the Lawyers for Human Rights Center, the bail surety for three student protest leaders was set at 200,000 baht each after they agreed to all release conditions.
The protesters have been released from Bangkok prison last night while the protest leaders are expected to be released from police custody today, October 20, after the bail money is paid to the authorities this morning.
