Thailand-
After a weekend of heavy speculation on media and announcements made at some Immigration offices in Thailand but not through any official means, as well as a leaked unsigned order, it appears a visa amnesty will be proposed and nearly certainly granted at a weekly Thai cabinet meeting tomorrow, according to the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration Spokesperson Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin in a statement to Associated press earlier today
The amnesty has been in place since April and allows tourists in the Kingdom of Thailand to legally stay in the country. However, the visa originally expired September 26th, although Immigration offices will reportedly not penalize those now technically on overstay.
It is important to note, however, that the amnesty is not yet official as of tonight and will not be until presumably the Thai Cabinet makes a final decision and signs the order sometime tomorrow, September 29, at the weekly Thai Cabinet meeting.
The proposed visa amnesty extension is reportedly until the end of October. Foreigners wishing to stay past the end of October are urged to resolve their visa issues as quickly as possible. The Pattaya News will be writing an editorial proposing that for those foreigners who wish to stay long term that they are offered the ability to sign up for the now approved special tourist visa.
