Ukrainian man falls to his death from long abandoned Surat Thani hotel

Surat Thani-

A thirty six year old Ukrainian man fell to his death from a seventeen story hotel that has been abandoned for a decade this morning, according to police.

The man, whose name was withheld pending embassy and family notification, was found lying on the pavement in front of the abandoned Southern Star Hotel on Chon Kasem road.

Pol Lt Col Chainarong Khlai-udom, deputy investigation chief of Muang police, told associated press the incident happened at about 7:30 AM this morning. A backpack containing personal possessions was found on the roof of the building, including several bottles of alcohol.

There was no sign of a disturbance or struggle, Chainarong added. At this time there is no evidence anyone else was present.

Police believe the man was drinking alone in the abandoned hotel before falling to his death. The incident is under investigation to determine if it was suicide, foul play or accidental while under the influence of alcohol. The man was staying in a nearby hotel, police added, and his immigration details will also be checked.
