Chonburi –

A driver of a so-called “big bike” that was reportedly speeding has been pronounced dead at the scene after they crashed their vehicle into a truck in Chonburi over the past weekend.

The Nongyai Police was notified of the accident on Sunday, March 14th, 2021, in the Nong Sua Chang sub-district mid-afternoon.

Police accompanied by Nongyai rescue workers and associated Thai press arrived at the scene to find the body of Mr. Wetpisit Sangsai, 26, lying on the road. Nearby, police found his damaged “big bike” and a ten-wheeler truck. A group of young Thai motorbike drivers and the truck driver were waiting for the police.

Mr. Supachai Sunata, 30, told the associated Thai press, “We were travelling from Bangkok to Chanthaburi with a total of 15 motorbikes, out for a weekend drive as part of a motorbike club.”

“I was behind Mr. Wetpisit who was driving at high speed. He was trying to overtake a car in front of him from the left side. Unfortunately, he seemed to lose control and crashed into the back of a truck instead of being able to pass the car.”

The truck driver, Mr. Phonsiri Sanyanan, 47, told the associated press, “While I was driving I heard a loud noise before I stopped the truck. I was not injured in the accident, but was shaken up over the loss of such a young life.”

Nongyai police stated they will be reviewing CCTV in the area to determine the exact sequence of events in the accident but do not believe any charges will be filed at this time.
