Press Release: 1st International Conference on Women Entrepreneurs 2021

Press Release: Gandhi Institute, Rangsit University, Thailand (01/08/2021)

75 Women Entrepreneurs from 11 countries joined the 1st International Conference on Women Entrepreneurs, an online event on Sunday, 25th July 2021, organized by Gandhi Institute, Rangsit University Thailand, and Thai- Indian Women Federation on the theme Empowering Women Entrepreneurs and Turning Crisis into Opportunities.

Access to financing, lower level of digital literacy, lack of opportunity for capacity development, and discriminatory social and cultural norms are the major barriers for women entrepreneurs.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a phenomenal and critical strain on the worldwide economy and the public health systems. The pandemic is also highlighting and magnifying the pre-existing inequalities and amplifying the multiple and intersecting vulnerabilities faced by women and girls. While the businesses have been badly affected by the pandemic, women entrepreneurs are among the worst hit. The promotion of women’s entrepreneurship will bring many positive ripple effects including its ability to boost job creation, alleviate poverty, and thus facilitating inclusive and sustainable growth.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has also led to an exponential increase in e-commerce business in the region. E-commerce business has provided a huge opportunity to women entrepreneurs to overcome the challenges faced and explore the global and regional markets. It can be a powerful tool for bringing in greater gains to women entrepreneurs since it addresses the outmoded barriers of geographic isolation and limited access to information and financing along with empowering women entrepreneurs socially and economically.

Keeping this in view, the 1st International Conference on Women Entrepreneurs was organized to equip the women entrepreneurs to use digital and online platforms to expand their business as well as creating awareness on the existing opportunities for promoting business through e-commerce as well as establishing a network among the women entrepreneurs.

Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker H.E. Mrs. Suchitra Durai, Ambassador of India to Thailand highlighted flagship initiatives of the Government of India on Women Entrepreneurs.

“Women are very well known for multitasking, and they have the potential to manage all these contradictions. There are great stories where men are playing a supportive role to women and as result, many women are emerging as successful entrepreneurs. By nature, women are highly capable in managing multiple roles, both as a businesswoman and as a homemaker”, Said Ambassador Suchitra Durai.

“COVID is the biggest disruptor in the history of modern mankind, and it has impacted people not only economically and socially but physical and mental health to livelihood and lives of people”, Ambassador added.
