A number of flights and hotel bookings in Phuket and Samui were almost fully booked by both Thai and foreign tourists during the four-day long weekend, showing significant signs of tourism recovery, Government Spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana reported today, May 16th.
The spokesperson revealed that about 44.46 percent of 70,000 available rooms in Phuket hotels were booked for May 13th – the 16th. And, 60-80 percent of the bookings were in the popular tourist destinations, such as Patong Beach, Kamala Beach, Surin Beach, Kata Beach, Karon Beach, Phuket downtown, and nearby areas.
The average number of inbound travelers is about 4,000 people/day from 27 international flights. About 100 flights of seven domestic airlines, carrying about 15,000 passengers, have landed at Phuket International Airport per day. It is expected that the visitors, both Thais and foreigners, would generate an average income of 1,826.19 million baht during the 4-day long weekend.
In Samui, many tourists were reportedly traveling to the island for today’s “Full Moon Party” which had significantly boosted the economy among local restaurants and tourism-related businesses of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan.
“Due to the state’s easing measures during March-May or Thailand’s “high season”, the tourism sectors and popular tourist attractions in the south and many areas across the country are getting lively again. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister had ordered the police and related agencies in the tourist destinations to strictly monitor the safety of tourists, both Thais and foreigners, and asked the Thai people to help maintain a good tourism image to stimulate the economy and generate income for the country in the future,” Thanakorn added.
