Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of National Resources and Environment, today, May 24th, ordered relevant authorities in the Ministry to tighten measures to prevent Monkeypox import into the Kingdom.

He also instructed the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation to conduct contraception while continuously sterilizing wild monkeys

The Ministry would also tighten its inspection at border checkpoints where wild and exotic animals could be transported under the CITES multilateral treaty. But, the illegal import of the creatures should be strictly monitored to prevent disease transmission.

Although no Monkeypox cases were discovered in Thailand as well as in various tourist attractions such as Lop Buri, Khao Sam Muk of Chonburi, and Khao Wang of Phetchaburi, the public is warned not to have any close contact with wild monkeys or other wild animals when traveling to reduce the risk of the infection.
