The authority is also promoting similar Loy Krathong events in five provinces nationwide, including Chiang Mai, Sukhothai, Tak, Samut Songkhram, and Roi Et in order to significantly encourage the traditional festival which is uniquely different in the provinces among locals and domestic tourists.

Yuthasak further said that the authority expected a number of roughly one million domestic tourists to be traveling across the country at the end of October since it is a three-day long weekend and to generate tourism revenue of at least 1.4 billion baht during the Loy Krathong festival weekend.

The governor stated: “We initially estimated that about 1 million Thai people will travel to participate in the major Loy Krathong festivals across the country, particularly in six major cities that have presented the magnificent and authentic Loy Krathong festival for many years.”

“The festival this year will primarily focus on traveling in line with the new normal procedure under the health measures of the Public Health Ministry as well as on maintaining the environment.”

Pattaya will also hold a combination Halloween and Loy Krathong festival on October 31.
