Thieves escape after cutting and trying to steal electric and cable wires in Pattaya this morning

Pattaya-

Two suspected thieves have escaped after cutting electric and cable wires in a theft attempt in Pattaya early this morning.

Captain Pichai RueangSuksud of the Pattaya City Police was notified of the incident at 2:00 AM on Pattaya Third Road in Nongprue.

Police and the Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find cut electric cables on an abandoned motorbike sidecar.

A local witness, whose name was not given to the press, told Pattaya City police that he heard someone walking on the roof of his house.

He went outside and saw two suspects were cutting electric cables in the vicinity of his roof. The suspects claimed that they worked for the Provincial Electric Authority and were fixing an electrical issue in the area.

The local asked for identification and to take photos and see a work order but they refused before speeding away.

He chased after them on a motorbike and the suspects abandoned their motorbike sidecar and cables on Soi Boon Sampan 9 before fleeing on foot. The local resident then called police.

Pattaya police are checking CCTV footage and hunting for the suspects. Cable and related equipment theft have been rising in the area, they added, as a result of the current economic situation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
