Education Minister Treenuch Thienthong on Wednesday, September 28th, urged all educational institutions to strictly monitor the abuse of marijuana in their areas after a clip of five junior high school students were seen smoking pot in the school’s restroom in Si Saket province.

The Minister told the Associated Press that the school director had informed the student’s parents about the incident. It was said that the students were not intending to take or smoke cannabis but was only out of their curiosity.

Treenuch then ordered all institutions to inform their students and build awareness on the dangers of and the proper use of marijuana to the students, parents, and people in the communities in order to provide cooperative care towards minors.

Meanwhile, the Education Ministry would consult with the Public Health Ministry to seek solutions and intensive preventive measures to prevent any recurrence.
