Feature: Our top five stories locally in Pattaya for the past week as chosen by our editorial team

Feature:

Pattaya, Thailand-

The following is our weekly feature in which we highlight the top five local stories in our area, Pattaya and Chonburi, for the past week.

These are chosen by our editorial team and are designed for our readers to get a quick “catch-up” of important stories they may have missed as we publish many stories daily and it is easy to lose track of important events or changes in our area.

They are in no particular order of importance. The following list is for the week from January 17th to the 24th, 2021.

1. Pattaya Police arrest 29 people during an early morning raid on a hookah lounge allegedly open against the law

In one of our top stories, Pattaya and Banglamung police raided a venue that was allegedly found to be open in the early morning hours over the weekend and arrested 29 people, a mix of foreigners and Thais. The venue, like all entertainment venues, was supposed to be closed due to Covid-19 regulations currently in effect. Additionally, hookah (shisha) is against the law in Thailand.

2. Frustration grows in Chonburi over Covid-19 regulations and restrictions

This doesn’t need much of an intro. On the bright side, it appears officials have heard the local residents loud and clear and may relax some measures as early as this week.

One of our most-read stories last week was one about a Danish gentleman who had allegedly been selling drugs in the Pattaya area for the past six years.
