Pattaya City Hall hands out supplies to the most needy in the area such as bedridden patients

Pattaya, Thailand-

Pattaya City Hall, at the orders of the Mayor, handed out supply bundles to community leaders yesterday to be given to those most at risk and in need in the Pattaya area during the recent Covid-19 crisis in the area.

Chonburi is currently classified as a “high risk” province which means travel to and from the province is restricted without permission from a district official and resulting paperwork. Additionally, thousands of businesses in the entertainment heavy city of Pattaya are currently closed by provincial government order out of concern for the potential spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus. Many businesses that CAN open have seen little to no business or choose not to open until domestic tourism can return and travel can resume, such as hotels.

This has led to many people in the area facing additional hardship as they or their family members run out of funds. Although the Thai government says they will be providing informal workers and the disabled and elderly with extra funds of either 3,500 baht a month or 2000 baht a month for two months depending on their status this is still likely weeks away. Registration for these cash handouts doesn’t even begin until the end of this month and the current closure and restriction period has been in place for over three and a half weeks.

Therefore, Pattaya City Mayor Sonthaya Khunplume ordered Mr. Damrongkiat Pinitkarn, Assistant Secretary, to deliver supply bags of rice, dry food, and masks to the neediest in the Pattaya area. This mainly is comprised of people who are bedridden and suffering from extreme poverty. The supply bundles were given to eleven community leaders in the Pattaya area who will then bring them directly to those most at risk.
