A look at a Pattaya business thriving during Covid-19-Cplus Express

Pattaya, Thailand-

This is not a sponsored post or advertorial but is part of our ongoing series on how local businesses are handling the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Pattaya and Chonburi.

The Pattaya News has been covering for the past two weeks local businesses in the Pattaya area in all different sectors that have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Pattaya, a city that depends on tourism for about 80% of its GDP, has understandably been devastated by the pandemic related travel restrictions and lack of foreign tourists. Some streets and sois one can see nearly every single business, no matter the sector, closed and for rent.  Most readers are aware of the problems the entertainment, hotel, hospitality, and tourism industries have had but today we will look at a business that has seen what they describe as a 60% increase in volume since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic last year-C Plus Express.

C Plus Express is a courier and delivery service in Pattaya and we spoke with the manager/owner of the Pattaya branch of the larger company, Sompop Wandee, over the weekend to hear how he was finding success in difficult times.

Sompop stated that although his company has benefited from the Thai Government’s focus on “staying and working at home” he felt he and his team had also made the best of the situation, noting that the overall population of Pattaya had fallen significantly and without what he described as his companies focus on customer service they would have been unable to find the success they have had.

Sompop stated that during the first round of infections of Covid-19 last year the company averaged about 300-400 more customers during the “lockdown” period as people ordered online more often and avoided going out.

Since another cluster of infections had begun in late December Sompop stated that he was also seeing a lift in business and volume overall, especially delivering products between provinces as people are not traveling as often due to a large number of travel restrictions, including in Chonburi.

Sompop stated his reasonable prices is another strong value proposition for his business and their success, stating that the starting fee for sending a package to Bangkok, for instance, is only 25 baht depending on the size of the item.

Sompop also said he has seen success by being proactive and partnering with online sellers and becoming their preferred method for shipping packages around Thailand. He stated to The Pattaya News that he recognized when the pandemic began that online sellers would often be too busy promoting, marketing, and selling to deal with the logistics of packaging and shipping so he and his team reached out to top online sellers and helped develop healthy business relationships and partnerships. This in turn helped both his business and those of their vendor partners.

Sompop’s shop is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is located off of Thepprasit Road just past the Go-Kart tracks. There is also a second Pattaya branch located in South Pattaya. An ID card is required or another form of identification like a passport for shipping packages.
