The following is a press release from the Pattaya, Thailand American Legion post TH02. The thoughts and statements inside are their own.
From the Commander of the Sgt Thomas Oliver Memorial Post TH02 Pattaya, Thailand
It is with great pleasure that I announce that the American Legion National Headquarters has approved the temporary charter of our post. On the 1st of July, TH02 applied for a temporary charter from the Department of France of the American Legion. This effectively allowed our post to operate with all the rights and privileges of an American Legion post here in Pattaya. The temporary charter was signed by the Department of France to be forwarded to American Legion National Headquarters for approval at the National level. The American Legion National Executive Committee approved the issuance of a Temporary Charter to Foreign Posts on the 14th of October 2020.
The formation of an American Legion Post here in Pattaya fills a gap that was previously unavailable for all US Military Veterans. We are the only Veterans organization that allows any Honorable Discharged US Military Veteran that has served since 07 Dec 1942 the opportunity to belong to an organization dedicated to helping and assisting these under-served Veterans. Our goal is to offer any and all assistance possible for our Veterans.
We currently have 49 members from all over the world and we continue to expand our membership. Although our primary focus is the US Veteran, we will also assist with in our capabilities any expat here in Thailand. We have a formed a strong network throughout Thailand with many of the organizations dedicated to the expat community.
