The Thai Government, through a spokesperson for their Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, or CCSA, has made no decisions at this point on visa amnesty for foreigners in Thailand, however, discussions are undergoing.
The Thai Government granted visa amnesty to tourists in the country on April 8th when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in the country in mid March. That amnesty was detailed here as well as its original conditions. The amnesty was eventually extended until July 31, 2020, the end of this month.
Natapanu Nopakun, a spokesperson for the CCSA and the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information, stated today in an English press conference that the CCSA was directly engaged in discussions and meetings that were ongoing regarding the amnesty but that no decisions had been made.
Thailand has not reported a single confirmed locally spread case of the virus in 39 days and the lockdown related restrictions on businesses were completely lifted on July 1st. However, the pandemic is still raging across the planet and many countries situations have not improved. Additionally, borders have not opened making it impossible for many who normally need a border run or to leave the country as a condition of their visa to leave. Thailand has also restricted international travel to the country to a small, selected group of people meaning if one were to leave the country it would be unknown when they could return.
