BANGKOK (NNT) – Pope Francis arrived in Bangkok today, Wednesday (Nov 20), and received an honorable welcome from Thai officials.

Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State, arrived at Don Muang Royal Thai Air Force Base and was welcomed by Privy Councilor, Gen. Surayud Chulanont, on behalf of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua; the Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak; the Foreign Affairs Minister, Don Pramudwinai; the Culture Minister, Ittipol Khunpluem, and religious leaders resident in Thailand.

A 21-gun salute was performed during the reception ceremony. Before leaving for the Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See on Sathorn Road, the Pope greeted people, including children of ethnic minorities, who had gathered at the airport.
