A five-year-old tiger named “Vichit” was found deceased by Thai rangers in Kamphaeng Phet province’s Mae Wong National Park.

The carcass was found near a creek on January 9th with traces of animal fangs on its neck and body and claws around the body, according to Rungroj Asavakultarin, the chief of Nakhon Sawan’s Protected Areas Regional Office 12.

The tiger was reported to have strayed out of its habitat in Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary before the Thai rangers found it dead near a creek.

On January 11th after the examination of the body, veterinarian Pimchanok Songmongkol revealed that the tiger was male and weighed around 100 kilograms. She said it had been dead for about three days and its death was probably not caused by humans but rather by other animals that fought with it over territory. She also stated that many male tigers inhabit the Mae Wong National Park.

Vichit the tiger had been born in the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary five years ago and moved to the Mae Wong National Park in February last year. Its bones would be conserved for future research, but its skin and meat would be incinerated according to the policy of the Department of National Parks.
