Bangkok –

Pathumwan officials early this morning (June 11th) raided an illegal pub in Bangkok which allegedly closes at 4AM, and reportedly found five underaged people present. Additionally, 19 people tested positive for illegal drugs including a pregnant minor.

The Director of the Governing Officer’s Law Enforcement Operation Center Mr. Ronnarong Whipsiri and the Pathumwan Police raided a pub in Soi Rong Mueang, Pathumwan. The raid came after a tip from a concerned citizen.

Pathumwan officers found the pub was in a “secret” area inside a parking garage. More than 500 Thai and foreign customers were found inside the pub. Five of them were reportedly aged under 20. Nineteen of the patrons tested positive for illegal drugs including a nineteen-year-old pregnant woman. On the floor of the pub law enforcement reportedly found some crystal methamphetamine and Ecstasy.

Mr. Ronnarong stated, “This place used to be a garage. It has been adapted into a pub in which most customers were foreigners. Four years ago this pub was ordered for closure, the pub reopened again illegally in February of this year. This pub is next to an educational place’s fence which by law must be closed and cannot be reopened.”

“The pub owner is facing charges of operating an entertainment venue without a permit, selling alcohol over the legal selling time of midnight, selling alcohol to underage minors, allowing people to use drugs in their place of business and offenses to the Child Protection Act.”. Ronnarong concluded.

The name of the pub and the owner were not released by Pathumwan officials.
