Gold shop lost 9 million baht after suspects pawned fake gold in Pattaya area

Banglamung-
A local gold shop has lost more than nine million baht after several suspects are accused of pawning fake gold items in Banglamung.

The Nongprue Police was notified of the incident yesterday afternoon.

Mr. Krit and Mrs Anda Teanmai who are ‘Thong Nit Tean’ gold shop owners reported to Nongprue police with 376 Baht worth of gold along with the CCTV footage.

They told police that the gang, which are about five suspects in total, pawned fake gold at their shop.

Inside plated gold items the gang sold was silver. They had realistically been covered with gold only on the outside.

In one month the shop had lost more than nine million baht from members of the gang, the owners told Nongprue police.

The gold shop owner had realised later that the items the group sold them was fake and had fooled shop staff due to the realistic covering and the fact a small section of chains sold was real gold.

The price of gold is currently high in Thailand and more people are pawning gold and selling gold items.

This afternoon, the Nongprue Police confirmed that one of the suspects was arrested who is a 43 year old Laotian man named San Untan.

Police seized a fake gold necklace from him. At this stage he has been charged with illegally entering Thailand. Police are interviewing Mr. Untan to identify other members of the gang they believe he worked with.
