Sattahip-

A fire that started from a religious Buddha stand and shelf caused moderate damage to a house in Sattahip yesterday (December 25th). No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were notified of the fire at 5:00 PM at a house in Na Jomtien.

Firefighters with multiple fire engines arrived at the scene to find the fire still ablaze with some smoke coming from the house.

It took about 15 minutes to control the fire in total.

According to Sattahip firefighters the fire had started from a Buddha stand and shelf which then spread to other areas in the house. Candles lit on the stand were believed to have been the original source of the blaze. In Thailand many homes and businesses have a special location with religious artifacts, statues and other items to provide respect to Buddha.

A total damage estimate was still being tabulated by the home owners and was not immediately available to the press.
