Ten events to boost Pattaya tourism before end of the year as Pattaya works with Thai Government to get more quarantine hotels approved for foreigners

Pattaya-

Ten events in total are scheduled before the end of the year to boost tourism in Pattaya in the traditional high season.

Mr. Tanet Suphonsahasarangsri, Acting president of the Chonburi Tourism Industry told The Pattaya News yesterday, “This is the final period before the year end during the traditional high season.”

“We are aiming to encourage domestic tourists to visit Pattaya due to border restrictions for foreign tourists due to the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Ms. Morakot Kundilok, a hotel operator, told The Pattaya News, “There are only three Alternative State Local Quarantines (ASLQ) where foreigners can participate for a 14 day quarantine in Pattaya currently. Unfortunately there have been delays on getting as many hotels available here for foreigners interested in quarantine in Pattaya. The majority of the focus of the government appears to be on Phuket and Koh Samui but want to encourage visitors to Pattaya as well.”

“However more than ten other ASLQ locations are being considered in Pattaya. The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration is well aware that Pattaya wants to welcome foreign tourists. We believe we can safely quarantine tourists here just as well as other places.” She added.

The Pattaya News adds that although three hotels are approved for foreign quarantine due to a variety of factors they are for the most part not yet welcoming foreign tourists on special tourist visas (mostly from China).

The Pattaya City Mayor Sonthaya Khunpluem told the press, “There are ten events in total over the next several months such as the Music Festival, Pattaya Countdown for the New Year, International Fireworks Festival, Jet ski world cup, Food festivals and more.”

“These events is not only boost tourism but also support local businesses.”

Last year Pattaya welcomed close to ten million tourists, just behind Phuket. This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, that number is expected to only be a fraction of the prior year. Pattaya depends on tourism for roughly 80 percent of their GDP according to city officials. Therefore they are switching focus to domestic tourism.
