Feature: A look at the upcoming week in Thailand news and what to look for

The following is a weekly feature in which we take a look at the week ahead in Thai News and give our readers what our editorial team has chosen as the top stories to be aware of and to follow over the next week. They are not in any order of importance. These stories were selected from dozens of stories that will develop further over the next week and that we will follow.

1. Further development of Thai Pro-Democracy and pro-establishment protests

The biggest story in Thailand right now is without a doubt the continuing protests in the country around Pro-Democracy demonstrators and now pro-establishment counter demonstrators. Tensions are high and this will likely continue to develop over the next week. Parliament is set to meet in a special session mid week next week but Pro-Democracy protesters continue to demand for several jailed protest leaders to be released and the Prime Minister to resign. 2. Loy Krathong and Halloween approaching

Even as foreign tourists continue to be denied entry to Thailand with no sign of relief before high season a major Thai holiday approaches. In Pattaya this will be celebrated on Pattaya Beach along with a bikini run and many Halloween parties. This will fall on Saturday of next week and should drive domestic tourism around the country.

3. Covid-19 locally spread case in Samui continues to draw concern

A woman who arrived from France and went through a fourteen day quarantine tested positive for Covid-19 several days after being released in the Koh Samui area. This story will likely develop more over the next week. You can read more about this below.
