Woman arrested for growing cannabis at home in Chonburi

Chonburi-

A woman was arrested today after reportedly growing cannabis at her house in Ban Bueang. She claimed that she used it for herbal medicine.

A team of police led by Lieutenant Colonel Pollawat Pumsawat of the Ban Bueang Police today raided a house in Nong Chark sub-district following a tip made by a concerned citizen.

Police found cannabis was being grown in six pots. They arrested a 56 year old Thai woman Paninee ‘Pis’ Sirirak, who reportedly admitted to growing the plant.

Paninee told police that her relatives had taught her how to make herbal medicine. She had grown the cannabis to make herbal medicine for self use.

She thought that cannabis was now legal to grow in Thailand. She is facing charges with illegal possession of a Category 5 Drug. Although Thailand is moving forward with medical marijuana with the proper paperwork and certificates, self usage without the proper paperwork is against Thai law, stated Ban Bueang police to The Pattaya News
