Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has signed an order on the establishment of the “Center for Economic Situation Administration,” or CESA which will handle economic and social rehabilitation following the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The center will also lay down foundations for economic development in the post-COVID-19 situation and ensure that the operations by relevant officials to tackle economic issues from the impacts of COVID-19 will be carried out rapidly and with great efficiency.
It consists of two committees. The first one is called “Committee for Economic Situation Administration,” chaired by the Prime Minister, and comprising 10 ministers from 10 ministries, the Governor of the Bank of Thailand, and representatives of the Board of Trade of Thailand, the Federation of Thai Industries, and the Thai Bankers Association.
The second committee, “Committee for the Mobilization of Economic Management Measures,” is chaired by Advisor to the Prime Minister Pailin Chuchottaworn, with the Director-General of the Bureau of the Budget, permanent secretaries of relevant ministries, and the Governor of the Bank of Thailand as members.
Three subcommittees were also set up for urgent economic management to ease the hardships of the people and SMEs, for investment promotion, and to manage support and suggestions for various economic sectors.
Moreover, provincial-level committees will be formed to offer advice to provincial governors in carrying out various projects in response to the needs of local people. The Government is ready to listen to public opinions through provincial governors, who will forward them to the responsible ministers.
