Chonburi Police officer survives after car crash and fire in Pattaya

A Chonburi police officer has survived after his vehicle crashed into a pole before setting on fire in Central Pattaya early this morning.

Lieutenant Siriwit Wongwanngrom of the Pattaya City Police was notified of the accident at 2:00 AM on Sukhumvit Road near Central Pattaya.

Police, emergency responders and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find a vehicle ablaze after crashing into a pole in the center of the highway.

The policeman, who works for the Chonburi Narcotics Suppression Division, was the driver and had sustained moderate head injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for medical assistance.

A witness told The Pattaya News that the SUV was allegedly driving at high speed before crashing into the pole and catching fire. The witness helped to remove the police officer out from the burnt vehicle.

Pattaya police are reviewing CCTV footage nearby to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.

The officer is recovering at a local hospital.
